Melissa Makarenko, Executive Chef
Melissa was in school pursuing marine biology when the drudgery of university studies caught up with her. Melissa met a passionate chef at a local job fair who inspired her to explore culinary school. After working for the Fairmont hotels in Winnipeg, Lake Louise, New Brunswick, and Montreal, Melissa came home to roost with an 8-year tenure at Resto Gare in St Boniface, which prepared her for her current home as Executive Chef at Peasant Cookery.
Thomas Johnson, General Manager
Thomas was born into the hospitality industry. His father was a restaurant manager, and his first job was washing dishes at 13 in his uncle’s restaurant summers in Kenora. His experience in the industry has run the gambit from 16 years at the Manitoba Club to managing the Royal Lake of the Woods Yacht Club and the Grace Ann II Lodge in Kenora to working as a tour caterer for Elton John and Brad Paisley. Thomas was part of the opening team at 529 Wellington, and returned from the road as its Assistant Manager. Thomas moved into the role of General Manager at Peasant Cookery in 2019.
Peasant Cookery’s dining room will re-open March 24 with a brand new menu. Our dining room hours will be 4:00 to 10:00 p.m., Wednesday to Saturday. Our pickup and delivery hours are from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday to Saturday.
